History

Guideline ACT was founded in 1985 by Gavan McArdle, who retired in 2004 after 40 years in the Canberra industry.

David Jones joined Guideline ACT in 1993, became a Director in 1994, Managing Director in 2000, retired in 2010 following 38 years of service for the construction industry.

The name “Guideline” actually goes back to 1973 when a larger group formed a construction company, which amicably split in 1985.

Guideline ACT began operations from a site shed on a purchased block of land in Bayldon Road, Queanbeyan, and went on to construct an office and workshop on the premises.

In 1992, after operating from Bayldon Road for 7 years Guideline ACT purchased and relocated to its current Head Office in Bass Street, Queanbeyan, which also houses its fully equipped workshop and ample parking and storage facility for its equipment fleet.

Nick Zardo first joined in 1987 and became Managing Director in 2010.

Guideline ACT has grown steadily over the years from a staff of 15 in 1985, 5 items of major plant and a turn over of under $1m to over 65 employees in 2010, over 40 items of major plant and a turn over in excess of $20m.

Vision

The primary objective of Guideline ACT is to deliver projects to its clients that are to a high standard of quality, in the most cost effective manner, within time constraints, at the same time recognising the need for good environmental planning, the effect on the community at large and the health and welfare of its employees.
